At the moment, interconnection is implemented with three (3) switches. Two switches are located in the Helsinki region: one in Otaniemi, Espoo (FICIX1) and the other in Pasila, Helsinki (FICIX2). The third switch is located at city of Oulu (FICIX3).

The traffic volumes have grown steadily over the years. The technology and port speeds are therefore upgraded according to traffic volumes, as needed by our members. It is highly recommended that members connect to more than one interconnection point for reliability reasons.

FICIX is responsible of all switches, while every member is responsible of arranging connections for themselves. Members can choose from one gigabit or 10 gigabit Ethernet ports. Port aggregation is fully supported, as well as multicast and IPv6. Switches are operated by Service Providers selected by FICIX Association. These providers do hands-on maintenance for the IXP points 24/7/365.
